Specimens in the Use of Present Simple Tense in English

Friends, we will dedicate today’s article to some specific uses of the Present simple tense. Let the additional information does not scare you, and it does not seem to you that the simple tense  becomes too complicated. All knowledge penetrates in our country gradually, but we must start by informing. We know that Present Simple Tense  is used to express commonly repetitive actions, proven facts, scientific truths … Let us meet one by one with some of its uses that may initially puzzle us but in time we will join his stock of newly acquired knowledge.

Use Present Simple Tense to describe planned actions

Through the present simple moment we can express actions that will take place at a near future and are planned in advance. For example:

My cousin arrives tomorrow at 5PM. – My cousin arrives tomorrow (scheduled).

or

The movie begins in two hours. – The movie starts in two hours (program).

As you can see, no future time is used here, as we would suppose it is necessary.

Use Present Simple Tense to Show Events From Someone’s Life Path – Most Historical Personality

The following example will help make this use clear:

16 December 1775 – Jane Austen is born in Hampshire, England on December 16, 1775. in Hampshire, England, Jane Austin is born (as you can see, in Bulgarian it also sounds good).

1783 – Jane Austen and her sister Cassandra are sent to Oxford to be educated – 1783. Jane Austin and her sister Cassandra are sent to Oxford to educate

1811 – Sense and Sensibility novel is anonymously published. – 1811г. The novel “Reason and Feelings” is published on behalf of an anonymous author.

Pay attention to the time of the verbs with the seals! It is Present Simple tense, although it is about events of the past.

Usage of Present Simple Tense in Instruction

When we instruct someone how to act, we also use Present simple tense. Read the examples:

Do not open the box!

or

Put the cake in the fridge!

or

Open your textbooks at page 45!
